Wordsmith Common‘s last album The Dreamer/The Believer was hailed as one of the best albums of 2011, but it was lost on fans due to his ridiculous beef with Drake. Never one to be stagnant, Common is working on the follow up of the critically acclaimed The Dreamer/The Believer with producers Kanye West and No I.D.
The man born Lonnie Lynn spoke to MTV about working with his dream team of producers on his tenth solo outing. “I am writing a new album. It will be coming out in January, and I’m looking forward to that. My stuff will come at the top of the year maybe some songs out there on the street level, ‘m going to work with No I.D. and looking to hopefully work with Kanye [West] and that’s some of the major people I’ll be working with, and whatever other great talents that I feel are going that direction that I want the album to be.”
Despite Common mainly working with No I.D. for his last album, he and Kanye have made some of the best songs of Common’s career together. You remember that little album by the name of Be? That was the joint that reintroduced Common’s rap style to the masses. No I.D. and Kanye West helped helped elevate Common’s artistry on his album Finding Forever. We’re thinking you should expect to hear sounds similar to those projects. Is that the type of music you want to hear Common rapping over?
